Letter from Will Yahr, new Director of KCDC
Dear Kiwi Country Day Camp Families,
It is hard to believe that in less than 200 days from now, Summer 2018 will officially begin. The campers will be bouncing on skybounce, flying through the air (safely) on the zip line and swimming their hearts out. They will see friends, counselors, and specialists that they haven’t seen in a long time; they will be home. These are the reasons I am here. Allow me to introduce myself as the new Director of Kiwi Country Day Camp (KCDC).
While growing up in Pittsburgh, PA, I was able to experience camp in many ways. I was a camper, a counselor-in-training, head counselor, division leader and color war captain. Through these experiences, I learned there was something about camp that was part of my DNA. For me, Summer = CAMP, it was that easy. Entering college, I was told it was time to “grow up” and get a “real job.” So, I listened. I studied hospitality and had a successful 18 year career in that industry, but there was a void. In that setting, I was truly passionate about providing service to both guests and my TEAM. However, I longed to provide that kind of service at a place that feels more like home to me and that home is camp. At KCDC, I can create memories for others as I had made for myself as a kid. Memories that have made a huge impact on my life.
When I visited camp recently with my family, my daughters Mallory (age 7) and Livie (age 3) as well as my wife (Dana) all fell in love with KCDC. At one point, Mallory turned to me and said “Daddy, this place is special.” I knew from that point on how lucky I am not only to be a father whose daughter shares the same love for camp that I do, but how grateful I am to now be the director of KCDC, a special place indeed.
I speak for all of the KCDC staff when I say we are passionate about providing a truly memorable experience for your camper(s) in a safe way. I believe in KCDC’s core culture and will continue to look at adding new programs and activities to even better serve the KCDC community. Planning for Summer 2018 is well underway to ensure another OUTSTANDING summer.
I hope to meet you in person, we will be hosting an informal Meet & Greet on Sunday, December 17th from 9:00am-Noon in our Kiwi Country Kitchen. We will have a tasty activity for the kids and an opportunity to get to know one another. Please RSVP on our website: www.KiwiCountryDayCamp.com. If you are unable to make that event, don’t worry, our Winter Camp Party is less than two months away on February 3rd!
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call me at the camp office (914-276-2267) or email me at Will@KiwiCountryDayCamp.com. Have a wonderful Holiday Season and I look forward to meeting you and your camper(s) soon!
Thank you,
Will Yahr
